Mr Hot Dog staging a food festival vibe for Care UK's Taste of Home campaign

Care UK runs residential care homes across the country, and their nationwide A Taste of Home campaign celebrates something that matters deeply to residents: traditional, home-cooked food that brings back memories of family life. To bring the campaign to life, PR agency WPR needed a showpiece that would draw a crowd and get the cameras out.

The brief

WPR was planning a food festival style open day at Manor Lodge, a Care UK home in Chelmsford, to showcase the home to local families and the press. They wanted something with more impact than a standard gazebo: a branded food truck that would act as the centrepiece of the event and a ready-made photo opportunity.

They asked us for availability, logistics and costs. We came back with a single, all-inclusive quote covering the dry hire, printing, fitting and removal of the branding, and delivery. For a branded activation like this, that typically comes to around £2,500. Logistically, all we needed from them were the event timings and an arrival time. The date was set for Wednesday 8 July.

Branding the truck

WPR supplied the artwork in the A Taste of Home campaign style alongside Care UK's branding. We checked the files, our print partners produced the signage, and the truck was fitted with a branded illuminated header and lower front panel before it left York.

We then drove it down to Chelmsford fully branded and slotted it into place, ready to go. Although the original brief described a purely visual prop, we arrived with power connected and the truck's shelving and fittings in place, so it could do more than just look good on the day.

On the day

Some of the more able residents stepped up to the hatch to serve cakes, snacks and treats to visitors. It was a lovely, light-hearted moment, and exactly the kind of scene the campaign was built around.

The home's manager told us how competitive the care sector is, and how important it is for homes to be seen doing interesting things in their communities. She had high hopes for the day, and it delivered.

The result

The activation generated press and radio coverage for Care UK's national campaign, with the branded truck providing the standout photo opportunity of the day. Afterwards, we collected the truck and stripped the branding, ready for its next job.
